Although construction on the new Pictureline addition began just over one year ago, the concept has been in the works for much longer.
A long-time friend of a Zwick Construction Superintendent, Jens Nielsen, the owner of Pictureline (a high-end camera supply store), has been wanting to construct an addition to his space for decades. With the COVID-19 pandemic, more people needed better cameras for virtual platforms, and Jens used this pivotal time to make his dream a reality.
This new 23,000 SF addition sits adjacent to the main Pictureline building. The buildings appear to be connected; however, this new space is actually floating with three inches between the buildings. Since the original building next door was constructed long ago, the project team took precautions to protect the site.
This two-story addition features a large, open space on the top level that will be used for classes and demonstrations. The plans called for tall, expensive windows that are completely clear to allow the purest, north-facing light into the building. Additionally, the south wall was painted with high-quality, exceptionally white paint so that the artwork displayed on the wall will keep its truest values when compared against the paint.
Pictureline remained open throughout construction, which brought some challenges to the project team because they had to keep not only the customers and staff of the store safe, but also the equipment, all without interrupting operations. For example, to build the addition, the team had to construct a new entrance to the store, complete with security systems to keep the expensive equipment safe. They also constantly vacuumed and cleaned to keep tiny dust particles away from the equipment.
Even with these added challenges, the project team turned over the impressive addition in September 2022. Pictureline held a grand opening event in mid-September to show off their new space.
