Zwick Construction will begin using a training app, Tyfoom, as part of the new learning and development program, aimed to help employees become familiar with Zwick and industry best practices. This is a result of responses to the employee satisfaction survey and a need for more comprehensive training.
Tyfoom is a microlearning app that will be rolled out for employees this month. Microlearning refers to programs that expose learners to small amounts of information regularly. It is proven to be a more effective way to learn.
Tyfoom will send employees one video every weekday that teaches various topics, such as safety, standard operating procedures (SOPs), general office information, and more. Some of these videos are made by Zwick employees and some are Tyfoom’s content, approved by our Director of HSE. Following the video, there is a simple, two-to-three question quiz.
Our Chief People Officer said about microlearning platforms, “This type of training is effective because retention rates are much higher and the trainings are less disruptive since you can do it any time. It’s faster and more convenient—you won’t have to carve out large amounts of time for them.”
The Tyfoom app has some advantageous features for training purposes. For example, each department has the ability to create department-specific playlists. The videos they produce for these playlists will train each member on the particulars of their specific jobs.
Additionally, Tyfoom has features that allow employees to track their progress both personally and with other employees through a leaderboard. In the case that employees are on leave, they can request that Tyfoom holds their video trainings until they return. Tyfoom will also track compliance certifications and notify employees when their certifications are about to expire.

Moving forward, Tyfoom will house all the Zwick SOPs for easy access. Employees will be able to search for the specific SOP or search for a video made by another employee that discusses the SOP.
This app will prove extremely beneficial because it will help us standardize processes across the company and project sites. It will also reinforce our safety culture through consistent reminders of safe practices.

Through Tyfoom, we hope to raise the awareness of safety in everything we do. It will act as a daily reminder that safety is a crucial part of our job.”
Employees should have received an email from Tyfoom. This email explains how to download the app, create an account, and start using Tyfoom. Employees should begin using it soon.
Microlearning through the Tyfoom app is only one aspect of Zwick’s four-part learning and development program. The program also includes online compliance/certification programs, on-the-job learning, and a coaching/mentorship plan. Each of these elements are aimed to help employees become better trained and knowledgeable in the industry.
