Congratulations to our healthcare business unit in conjunction with the St. George Office on delivering two healthcare projects at the St. George Regional Hospital in May—the Southwest Orthopedics Suite and the Respiratory Therapy Suite.
The owner of both projects, Intermountain Health, hired Zwick Construction to complete a suite-wide remodel of the Southwest Orthopedics Care Clinic to help them reduce doctor visits and give patients more specialized care. This new urgent-care clinic is the first of its kind for the owner and required dedicated concentration from the project team in keeping the hospital functional and contaminant-free.
The new suite features an x-ray room, two procedure rooms, 13 exam rooms, a call center, breakroom, and restrooms. During construction, about half of the existing space was completely demolished, and the other half was minimally remodeled to match the updated style. Construction teams also updated data, lighting, and power throughout the suite.
As with all healthcare projects, our team took extra precautions to keep patients of the hospital safe, following ICRA standards, especially with this project sitting above a neuro rehabilitation/brain trauma center. During construction, the team utilized both ICRA walls and HEPA vacuums and maintained negative air. This project not only passed inspections by St. George City but also Intermountain Health’s facility manager.
Preserving a positive patient experience was the first priority of this team. Many times, construction activities took place after hospital hours to prevent interrupted services or distracting noises/vibrations. Moreover, to keep the suite active throughout the 13-month construction, the project was completed in three phases.
As the superintendent explained, “Healthcare always comes first regardless. We have to work around the hospital needs, not the other way.”
