This December, Utah Construction and Design Magazine recognized Zwick Construction’s project, the Utah Fertility Center Surgery Suite, as the best small healthcare project in Utah for 2022—congratulations to the team on this remarkable award! This recognition represents collaboration from the Zwick team, the architect, and owners who were delighted with the outcome of the project.
Utah Fertility Center provides services for patients struggling with reproductive challenges. Due to the steady need for their services, the company decided to expand their practice to an adjacent location in Pleasant Grove, UT. The space was formerly a retail and office suite.
To encourage patient comfort and calmness, the design team implemented “resimercial” (residential-commercial) styling—a blend of spa and residential details. For example, throughout the lobbies, hallways, and suites, they installed uniquely-feminine textures and colors.
The surgery suite features multiple exam rooms, an operation, pre/post operation rooms, a cleanroom, offices, nurse stations, and an embryology lab.
As with most healthcare projects, this tenant improvement project brought unique challenges to the team. First, the existing space was originally fashioned for retail space and the previous owners retained little information regarding plumbing systems, above-ceiling runs, and overall building structure. This required the team to work closely and creatively to install the MEP systems and ducts.
"The Utah Fertility Center Surgery Suite was a rewarding project to be a part of. We had great owners and architects. It was truly a team-effort to deliver this meaningful remodel to Utah County." (Assistant Project Manager)
Another challenge surrounded moving the entrance of the building to the east side. Because of ADA requirements, the project team had to elevate the exterior sidewalk and ADA ramps to meet existing floor slab-on-grade.
Even between those challenges, installing bulk liquid nitrogen tanks, building mechanical yards, and converting an underutilized roof patio for installation of a hydronic boiler, the team delivered the project within seven months.
Great work! The team will be recognized in the magazine’s January release.
