Completed in 2014, the Thermo King Intermountain Headquarters became the first of many Zwick Construction projects completed on behalf of TKI. Thermo King is a manufacturer of transport temperature control systems for trailers and trucks. They hired Zwick to build a headquarters for themselves and their partner, JCB Dealership, in West Valley City, UT.
The 39,000 SF building is a tilt-up structure and features blue and gray painted panels. It’s a two-story structure mainly composed of the service center/shop. The shop features 12 bays and a pull-through area in which tractor-trailers can easily enter and exit the garage. Each bay has a roll-up door and thick concrete slabs underneath to support the weight of the trucks.
The building also features a two-story office space for administration and executives of the company. The interior offices were finished with polished concrete, tile, and carpeting.
In addition to the building itself, the property includes ample parking on thick concrete slabs, and storage space. The entire property is nine acres.
One of the unique features of this Thermo King location was the exhaust system that was installed. Since the refrigeration packs and trucks run off diesel engines and the trucks are placed in the shop for extended periods of time, the space required a way to allow the exhaust from the diesel to exit the building. The Zwick team installed the exhaust system which transports potentially harmful gases out of the building.
After Zwick Construction delivered this project in eight months, Thermo King invited us to complete another project for them, located in Boise, ID— a 21,600 SF structure very similar to the original building in West Valley City. It was also completed on a quick timeline, delivered in February 2017.
The project team did an excellent job completing the project in a timely manner and within budget. Their hard work opened the door to more manufacturing/warehouse building opportunities throughout Utah and Idaho, including the Stokes-Warner Trucking Center in Tremonton, UT; the Warner Truck Center in West Valley City, UT; the Warner-Freightliner Dealership in Idaho Falls, ID; Specialized Manufacturing in Draper, UT; and more.
