BYU HIGH TEMPERATURE
TUNNELS PHASE 9
PROVO, UT: BYU HIGH TEMPERATURE TUNNELS PHASE 9
OWNER: Brigham Young University
ARCHITECT: Heath Engineering
The contract included the excavation and construction of new, underground concrete tunnel structures to house high-temperature water lines, electrical, and data at Brigham Young University. This phase allowed for the relocation and extension of new utilities to accommodate several new and future structures served by the campus Central Utility Plant.
Zwick completed the contract, while mitigating risks and exposure to the more than 50,000 students and faculty. The most challenging part of the contract was boring a 12-foot diameter opening beneath five lanes of a major boulevard which bisects the university campus.
The execution required the use of sheet pile shoring on 100% of the excavation.
